Tanya’s ten top tips to help minimize your legal costs
Top Tip 6/10
Consider Resolution.
I have on my wall a cartoon in which a lady is depicted in consultation with her solicitor. In it she is quoted as saying, “… so I told them, ‘I have tried working things out amicably. You will now be hearing from my solicitor.’”
Your choice of solicitor is your choice. It is up to you to select the solicitor and we are not all the same. It is important to find someone you can trust and with whom you have a good rapport. After all, in family law, you will be covering personal ground.
At SNS we are acutely aware that dealing with things as carefully and sensitively as possible is crucial in family law. We are members of Resolution which is the Association of Family Solicitors and Lawyers. Resolution Members are skilled in settling disputes in a practical and constructive way. This is the best way to save costs and to preserve relationships (particularly for the benefit of the children). At the end of the day, even where a couple are separating, there are usually family relationships which will outlive the marriage. As Members of Resolution, our family law solicitors work to collaborate and negotiate, rather than intimidate and litigate.
Sometimes it is not possible to avoid court proceedings and in some cases this can actually be a more cost-effective approach. We have the experience to be able to identify the best option for each of our clients and to assess when things have changed. Every person is different, with unique needs and priorities.
We are highly specialised, practically focussed, and have at our disposal solutions which minimise and remove stress, cost and time. We have the knowledge and experience to provide a service tailored not only to resolving issues constructively, but also to managing and mitigating the anger and frustration often directed at each other when involved in a family dispute.
Tanya Foster is an Accredited Specialist with Resolution in areas of Financial Provision and Private Children.
Richard Salvidge is a Member with Resolution. We are both experienced in putting our clients’ needs first in the context of complex and emotive proceedings.
